ROW Web ImageDid you know…

1 out of every 6 people in the world remain trapped in extreme poverty, living on less than $1.25 USD per day?

So why ROW?

ROW’s goal is to serve the human, physical, and spiritual needs of others in an atmosphere of mutual concern and respect. As you can see from our website, our opportunity to serve is based on a thorough evaluation process and local partnership. ROW isolates the specific challenges that often cripple remote-access communities (and impede their opportunities to develop sustainability). ROW fights against poverty and the lack of access through “holistic” care, empowering communities to thrive independently within a model that is reproducible from one local community to another.

What keeps ROW afloat?

That question is tricky to answer, as there are many things and people that keep ROW afloat. However, if I had to name just one thing it would definitely be partnerships.

ROW partners with churches from all over the United States. ROW partners with schools – elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and colleges and universities. ROW partners with the local indigenous leaders of the communities in the countries in which it serves. ROW partners with other organizations and non-profits from all over the world. ROW partners with others because we know that we cannot do what we are called to do alone. Sure, ROW could try to do it alone. And we might even be able to take a few steps. But, a few steps does not compare to giant leaps.

One of the amazing aspects of partnerships is the fruitfulness of them; in other words, the relationships, the stories, the generating of new ideas. The relationships live on through generations. The stories fill people’s minds and hearts. The new ideas spark new relationships and stories. See how full circle it all is?

This is why I am thrilled that ROW and Againstiflow are going to the Dominican Republic together from December 14-20 to help with construction. We will all be able to share in all of those things together – all for the common goal to help positively transform lives and communities with the end goal of self-sustenance and the ultimate goal of reflecting God’s life-changing love.

Pray for us as we gear up for this trip, “for we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9).

Peace and blessings,

All InChanging your lifestyle, what you live for, or anything in your life first requires awareness. You need to be aware that you are doing something wrong before you can make any changes. But awareness without action gets you nowhere. Awareness without action is where most people get stuck. They know there are some things they need to change, but all the obstacles in the way cause them to do nothing. The obstacles will be too uncomfortable to deal with so they just stay in their “comfort zone”. It would be easier to continue your lives in the same way because that is what you are used to. I know….I have been there!

You know you need to change some things in your life, but you don’t know how.

What should you do?

  1. Surround Yourself With Positive Influences

If you cannot make good decisions about your life when you are around a certain group of people…then begin to hang out with a different group. This is part of the fight and it is not going to be easy. Those people are your friends, but this step will be the best thing for the future of your friendship. Part of the reason we started Againstiflow is to give people an outlet and a group of people to do life with. Some other places you can get plugged in are:

  • Churches
  • Young Life
  • RUF

Try surrounding yourself with people who are following the Lord and watch your struggles become less and less of a struggle. Also, be honest with what you are struggling with because you are not the only one fighting that battle.

  1. Go All In. Get Involved. Get Amongst It.

Have you always gone to church, but you don’t feel like you are getting anything out of it? That is probably because you are not 100% bought in. You are not “ALL IN” with your church. Whatever church you feel led to attend please get as involved as you can. It will change your perspective on everything. God does not want us to go through the motions in life. If you want to be a part of Againstiflow we want you to be all in with us! You will get so much more out of it that way.

  1. Pray. Read Your Bible. Go To Church

This sounds pretty obvious, but these are the fundamentals of being a Christian and it is not easy to do all of them on a consistent basis. If you want to become a great basketball player you need to practice dribbling, shooting, defense, and get in shape. It requires discipline. I heard the other day that discipline is the difference between average and abundance. Do you want to live an average life or an abundant life? Pray. Read Your Bible. Go To Church.

With Againstiflow we want to try to bridge the gap between you and God. He sent Jesus to die on the cross so that all of our sins could be forgiven and we could enjoy a life of freedom. Many, many temptations are thrown your way in college and if you do not have a solid community around you, pushing you towards God, they can overwhelm you.

We are starting AgainstiGroups for college students (girls and guys) in August. We are really excited about this and they are going to be a blast. It will not be your normal Bible study! Anyone and everyone is welcome…God wants you to come to Him just as you are…imperfections, sins, and all…and we want you to come that way too. Nobody is perfect and you can’t do life alone.
